Help us help your students! Every year we encourage girls and trans and non-binary students of all genders, including and especially BIPOC youth, in 6th, 7th & 8th grades to join us for a day-long conference to learn about Science-, Technology-, Engineering-, Arts- and Math-based professions that are occupied by real women, trans and non-binary professionals.
The purpose of the conference is multifold. We aim to increase access to and representation in STEAM fields, as well as expose student to college campuses to support them in envisioning their future. Our workshops are fun AND educational. We hope our conference will help youth who are systemically excluded to see themselves in STEAM and inspire them to dream and chart their academic course with passion and excitement.
Students attend three sessions of their choice and then participate in a Mainstage (keynote) presentation. A great variety of professions are represented. Check out a pass class list. We give them a bag with miscellaneous goodies like pens, paper, highlighters, etc. and a map of campus along with their session assignments. After the Mainstage, we typically give away donated prizes, such as posters, gift certificates, and other cool items.
The area where our committee needs the most assistance from YOU is spreading the word to students about this wonderful opportunity by sharing our latest brochure and website with female-identifie students and their parents. We will also post conference information via schools, libraries and other public places. With the support of everyone in a school district we could reach those who would most enjoy and benefit from this amazing opportunity.
