2026 Breakout Sessions #1
A1- Build Your Gut City: Designing the Microbiome that Powers You
Step inside the hidden world of your gut and discover how the microbiome influences your energy, mood, focus, and overall health. In this hands-on workshop, students work in small groups to build a “Gut City” using colorful materials to represent different types of bacteria.

Through creative design and real biology concepts, you’ll explore how everyday choices—like food, sleep, stress, and antibiotics—affect the balance of your inner ecosystem and learn how you can help it thrive.

A2- Money Talks
In this interactive session, middle school students will build a personal budget based on a chosen career and income, making decisions about housing, transportation, food, entertainment, and everyday expenses. As costs add up, they’ll see how thoughtful budgeting keeps finances on track. By the end, students will gain a better understanding of real-world financial responsibilities and develop practical skills for future independence.

A3- Beautiful Benthics - The Hidden World Beneath the Water
Explore the hidden world beneath streams and rivers! Students will identify and sort real aquatic invertebrates—worms, snails, insects, and more—learning to act like a stream bug expert. By the end, you’ll be able to assess the health of the waterway and uncover the secrets of these tiny creatures.

A4- Bake, Test, Repeat: A User Experience Design and Research Workshop
In this 50-minute interactive workshop, participants explore how UX Research and UX Design work together. Co-led by a psychology researcher and a UX designer, the session highlights rapid research, design thinking, and usability testing through a hands-on activity.

A5- Green Wood vs. Dry Wood: What’s the Difference?
Join us for a behind the scenes look at lumber drying, where math, science, and engineering come together to turn rough, wet boards into building ready lumber. Students will get hands on with moisture meters, real wood samples, and the energy systems that make it all possible.

A6- NLP & Mindfulness for Anxiety

Neurolinguistic Programming & Mindfulness tools that help calm the nervous system & support mental processing skills with an angle of being centered in confidence & self-trust.

B1- Eyes Under the Puget Sound
Ever wonder what types of creepy crawlies lurk in the mud beneath the waters of Puget Sound? Learn how marine scientists sample sediments and identify these fascinating benthic invertebrates. Use a microscope and get up close and personal with worms, sea stars, clams, crabs and more!

B2- Hematology Hero's- How do Medical Technologist's Earn A Cape?
Curious about red and white blood cells and their roles in immunity and oxygen transport? This course explores how different cell lines support the body, their role in homeostasis, and how lab results guide diagnoses. Learn how Laboratory Medical Technicians make a real difference in patient care!

B3- Introduction to AI in Scratch
In this hands-on session, students learn Scratch programming basics and explore AI. Build simple projects, then use MIT RAISE’s Scratch AI Playground to train a word classifier. By the end, students will have a working Scratch project using their own AI model to make real-time predictions.

B4- STEAM for Community Solutions: How Science, Policy, and Social Justice Work Together 
Explore how STEAM tackles community challenges! Start with an interactive clean air demo, then collaborate in small groups on a mini policy challenge addressing land use, housing, environment, and sustainability. See how local government blends data, technical expertise, and community values to make real-world decisions.

B5- Lip Gloss Magic
Understand that chemistry is about mixing materials to create change. Learn how ratios and temperature affect outcomes. Practice problem-solving and experimentation.

C1- Oyster Shucking & Anatomy
Come dive into the world of oysters as we appreciate the role they play in the environment and their complex and fascinating anatomy. Take a microscopic peek at what they eat before tracing the path that phytoplankton make through these amazing and tasty filter feeders.

C2- Meaningful Watersheds: Building community for ourselves and the natural world
Come join the Estuarium as we go through an interactive model of a watershed. Learn through hands-on activities how these vital spaces provide key ecosystem services for the plants and animals within them. Build with us a watershed that meets the needs of plants, animals, and especially you!

C3- Mock Trial
Mock trial involving international civil child abduction case. More details coming soon.

C4- Physical Therapy: Movement as Medicine
Explore the world of physical therapy in this hands-on workshop! Students will try movement screenings, learn basic anatomy, discover common injuries and treatments, and rotate through stations using PT tools, modalities, and adaptive equipment. A Q&A at the end lets students reflect and ask about a career in PT.

C5- A Breath of Fresh Air - Weather, Air Quality and You 
What is air pollution and where does it come from? You might be surprised! Explore how weather affects air quality and discover simple ways you can help keep the air clean right now.

C6- The Elements of Cooking
The workshop will include the core elements of cooking: Salt, Fat, Acid, and Heat and Umami.
